Soccer Stadium Deal 'Very Close' | The Jersey Journal

HARRISON — There may only be three weeks left in 2004, but Mayor Raymond J. McDonough is optimistic that an agreement will be reached with state and county officials before the year ends, ensuring that a major league soccer stadium is built here.

"We have been working on getting the MetroStars stadium here for years, and now we are very close to a deal," McDonough said shortly after the Harrison Town Council meeting Tuesday night.

Within a month, he added, "I'm hoping to hear something about it."

Construction, he said, should start next year. Opening day, officials have said, is targeted for April 2006.
